hard candy christmas

sort of. 

my good friend leah albino came over yesterday and we started making christmas goodies at 10am and didn't stop until 4pm. we made a boatload of sweets to give as gifts. 

i made plain homemade fudge, double chocolate peppermint bark and cast iron skillet toffee*, and leah made walnut fudge and double chocolate peppermint bark. 

 
  


















 *not actual toffee but the cool cheater's kind of toffee - so good! unfortunately, i can't give any of it as a gift because it didn't set up and remained too squishy and soft so i'm going to do it again, but this time use white sugar on the advise of my friend sara who is a genius in the kitchen. 

i guess that means i get to eat the stuff i can't give away... damn. 

reward

i spent more than 5 hours having mammograms and ultrasounds today. i am worn smooth out.

maybe i'll write more about it later, or maybe tomorrow.
right now i can barely keep my arms in an upright position...

ouch.

It's a culinary salon, a cooperative dinner party, an underground restaurant... what our friends in Cuba call a paladar: one person cooks and everyone else chips in to cover groceries.
